2-TIMES • Art
Adrian Ghenie,
‘Jungles in Paris’
@ Galerie
Thaddaeus Ropac
—
“It is never the
motif that interests
me but always
the texture of my
subjects and how
the transformation
of this texture over
time can tell a
secret narrative...”
The exhibition:
Is the Romanian-
born, Berlin-based
Ghenie's second
solo with Ropac,
featuring a new body
of works produced
by the artist across
a trio of mediums,
including paintings,
collages on paper,
and a group of
large-scale grisaille
charcoal drawings.
Title reference:
‘Jungles in Paris’
was borrowed from
the Henri Rousseau
exhibition at Tate
Modern in 2005-06,
intending to signify
the visual tension
created by the
juxtaposition of two
seemingly disparate
environments—the
sophisticated urban
Paris versus the exotic
wild untethered jungle.
