2-TIMES · Art
Brian Calvin @
Almine Rech
Gallery

The exhibition:
Hours’ features
an assortment
of new paintings
by Brian Calvin,
divided into
3 unique series.

1. Portraits of
big-eyed girls

in various
states of zoom,
presenting a
strangeness in
temporality.

2. Unseen Seas
acrylic & sand
-based works
graduated by
color, revealing
a familiarity in
composition.

3. Mouthfeel;
lips, teeth and
occasional
tongue — in
pink, red &
orange — all
presented on
horizontal
canvases,
reaffirming
the primacy
of visual
reflection.

In Brian's
words:

“I prefer to
experience
abstraction
through the
creation and
tending of
images —
and painting
provides the
medium.”
