2-TIMES • Art
Christian Holstad,
‘New Positions’
@ Andrew Kreps
Gallery
—
“...United not in
material, but in
approach – he
employs traditional
techniques and
meticulous craft to
unexpected, and
transformative
ends.”
Title meaning:
Holstad's works
in ‘New Positions’
function not as
self-portraits, but
as an intuitive
meditation on
the male figure —
collectively recasting
it as a vessel, able
to receive & change.
The exhibition:
Is the American
artist's 2nd solo
with Andrew Kreps
Gallery, for which
he presents several
unique but connected
bodies of work —
including a series
of life-size ceramic
figures, new pastel
drawings and a
large-scale collage,
which are furthered
by the presence of
healing herbs and
flowers, contained
in a grouping of
phallic vases.
