The Idea:
Detached
from a
literal
appearance
of nature,
Kimia's
paintings are
reconstructed,
flattened
spaces,
based on
imagination
& invention,
and the
collective
memory of
her family.
The final
paintings toy
with illusions
of three-
dimensionality,
but the vibrant
color and
decorative
patterns prevail,
reinforcing the
flatness of the
picture plane,
alluding to the
flatness of
her experience
with Iran.
