2-TIMES · Art
Gregor Hildebrandt,
‘Alle Schläge
sind erlaubt’
@ Almine
Rech Gallery
—
“The ancient war
game of chess
neatly makes the
point that there
are always rules
demarcating a
field of endless
possibilities...”
The exhibition:
Translated, the
title of Hildebrandt's
latest solo offering
reads: ‘No Holds
Barred’ — alluding
to the notion of
artistic freedom
while adhering to
a self-given set of
rules. For this show
the German artist
has combined a
maze-like installation
with smaller abstract
works, including a
series of acrylic
paintings featuring
magnetic cassette
coating and
adhesive tape.
Gregor's references:
Audiovisual mediums
such as cassettes,
films / videotapes
and vinyl records.
“I want to create a
building inside the
Almine Rech space..
I wish to build a
house, or a city,
but actually it’s
only a sculpture,
it’s only a game.”
