—
‘A man in exile,
wandering the
world in the
aftermath of war.’
Born:
(1936–2017) —
Piraeus, Greece.
The exhibition:
Presents Kounellis's
historic works;
the backdrops to
his childhood were
World War II and
ten years of civil
war in Greece —
alongside works
from the last few
years of the artist's
life in Rome, where
he was an active
member of the
‘Arte Povera’
movement.
"Kounellis rejected
the notion of a
post-war society.
To him, war and
its trauma linger in
the social psyche
indefinitely.”
