2-TIMES • Art
John Russell,
‘GOLD’
@ High Art
—
‘This is reminiscent
of the avant-garde
aesthetic (trauma);
where our experience
of experimentation
with the configurations
of form and space,
predicts future
spatial and temporal
configurations, and
radically transformed
conditions of experience.’
The exhibition:
Is London-based
multidisciplinary artist
John Russel's first solo
with High Art in Paris,
featuring a new series
of eclectic acrylic
paintings, positioned
alongside numerous
freestanding steel
sculptures, and
a 45 minute HD
video with sound.
“In the extravagant
plumage of birds,
the decadence of
mating rituals and
the frenzied dance
of bees, this aesthetic
or affect can be splayed
out as an oscillation
between the ludicrous
and the operational,
form and informe,
possible and impossible,
drama and melodrama,
present and the future.
And always the
stratification of or
revolutionary as well
as potentially trivial.
Like a gif.”
