2-TIMES · Art
Lothar Hempel,
‘Working Girl’
@ Sies + Höke
—
“A romantic
notion of working
class liberation &
emancipation.”
The exhibition:
Taking its title
from the 1988
movie directed
by Mike Nichols,
‘Working Girl’
is Berlin-based
Hempel's first solo
with Sies + Höke
in Düsseldorf,
featuring 12 new
works including
an assortment
of sculptures,
photographic
prints, paintings,
and mixed media.
“I think movies
are about setting
bodies in motion
in unusual ways.
In my sculptures
and paintings, the
bodies are freed
from their context
and stopped in
their movement.”
Lothar's
inspiration:
Transporting the
idea of tireless
and vigorous
pursuit, even if
the outcome is
completely unclear.
