—
“Seeing the
normally unseen...”
The exhibition:
Is Beshty's 2nd
solo with Petzel in
New York, featuring
several distinct bodies
of new work by the
Los Angeles-based artist,
including photograms
created in the darkroom
without cameras,
deconstructed office
machines & televisions,
and a series of polished
copper works / sculptures
intended to be treated
without gloves when
installed or de-installed
such that with each
handling, the works
accrue marks from
contact with the art
handler’s body.
Beshty's key interest:
‘Rendering transparent
how an artwork is
produced.’
—
“(My) work fits into
these standardized
forms, it is a negotiation
with these standardizations.
In general, I think life is
a negotiation with such
limits. Improvisation
within restriction.”
Accompanying
illustrated catalogue:
‘Procedurals:
Petzel 2014–2017’.
